I'm so happy I went! :bounce :techni :bounce I TOTALLY made the right choice! :bounce :techni :bounce

Aside from eveyone I knew would be brilliant, Duncan James really impressed me to. :)

I don't always like what Maria Freedman does with songs but her 'As if we never said goodbye' gave me chills!

The only one I was like "Why?" was Joss Stone, she was rubbish. :(

All bias aside JD didn't impress either, but then I honestly didn't expect it. Even Mum was like "he's getting on a bit!" :lol

JB doing Sunset Boulvard was even better than I thought he would be :bounce And of course, as usual, he had everyone in stitches as the host! :lol

Ruthie Henshall & Idina Menzell both looked stunning & sounded incredible! Idina's songs were 'Don't Cry For Me Argentina' & 'Another Suitcase In Another Hall; the last of which fit her voice to a t I thought. She could easily play Eva if they ever do another big rivival ;D

I have to give it to DVO, she was stronger than I (even pre-Lee) gave her credit for.

Jessie held up well & is clearly learning fast, STILL can't get my head around Jodie; how she won will forever be a mystery to me. ???

Only heard Dean (damn tiny disabled loo! >:() but he sounded great!

The ADWD boys (particularly Dan) held up 'Light at the end of the tunnel, but to be completely fair to the IDA girls, even though they are clearly not as strong, some of their mikes went south! :(

Micheal Crawford sent a very sweet poem via video message.

I KNOW you're not supposed to say this about the Grand Dame of WE theatre, but I really DID get the impression that Elaine Paige had only been asked & was only there, because it was the 'done thing'; mind you, it doesn't help that 'Memory' is now such a cliche it bores me speechless :yawn Would have much prefered 'With One Look' or something.

**************************************************************************************

Now Lee; where the devil to start?! :bounce He was INCREDIBLE! :bounce :bounce He was so happy & confident & bouncy & smiley. The vast majority of the HUGE audience had come to see him, he knew it, & without a trace of arrogence(sp?) he had them eating out of the palm of his hand from the second he walked on stage, never mind note one!

AIAOY

With Hailey Westenra; OMFG! :thud :love :thud :love :thud :love
Knocked WJMM clean out of the Park! Pun intended! :lol HOW he only made understudy Rouel (sp?) I just can't think; somebody clearly dropped the ball on that one & it's just a bl***y good job that the public picked it up again! He really sells that song SO well! He was a sweetheart to Hailey, but us Lovelees knew this already, right?! ;) :thumbup ;D You really could tell she knew she was with a class act; they should record it. My Fic is having the end adjusted now methinks! :thumbup

LCE

VERY good job Mum was on a hot chocolate run at the time! :-[ :devil :lol :devil Just so powerful, can't wait to hear with the background cleaned up for radio! Lee's version has now totally stolen my poor, over-thudded heart! :thud :devil :love :thud. And the curls OMG! :thud :love :thud. A couple of times I swear I heard gasps when close-ups were on the screens! I'll NEVER forget it!

CED

Don't remember much tbh; think I was mesmerised! :-[ Kneeling down Lee is most certainly a very good thing! :love :love He saved his voice a bit, but only by merging money notes he still nailed & only a true Lovelee would ever have known.

ADWD
Very bouncy & smiley, (ordering the audience about & being obeyed :devil :thud) had us all waving & singing along (think megamix X 1000). Much, much, coat twrilling, hope he spotted or he'll have been very dizzy. One of the two times for me he actually looked really GORGEOUS in coat! :love :thud

There's my review; sorry I waffled so much but I thought you might want details!

Questions welcome

Thank you so much, AngelRose!

That's very interesting about Elaine Page. Yes, "Memory" is so overdone it's a bore now and frankly, as a showstopping finale, it's a bit of a downer, too. CED or LCE would've been much better choices to close the show, but I suppose EP had to be given that closing spot.

Is it just me or is Lee looking EVEN MORE SEXY than ever? Sweet jeesus eatin' creamed corn, how is that possible?

It's a great time to be a Lee fan. Sigh.

Brilliant review AR - nothing much to add to that, it was a fabulous evening and Lee stole the show - four times over! Everytime he walked on that stage, he owned it and held that crowd in the palm of his hand ... fantastic to witness and to see how much he was enjoying it, the little grins simply could not be contained, even in LCE!

LCE - I thought he was good at the Don Black concert, but this trounced that ... he just oozed confidence as he sang, totally blew me away (apologies in advance for very shaky video!)

AIAOY - all I could see was the back of his head, but his voice reduced me to tears

CED - that black outfit should be illegal, nuff said

ADWD - as AR says, a real sing-along, wave-along songfest ... and probably the best I've ever heard him perform it!

Stunning, simply stunning ...

I've put some photos up on the Timeline for starters, but will add the shaky LCE video and programme scans, etc., when I get home tonight.

LINKY THING

Bigbird - sorry for the panic about tix, very, very glad we got it sorted so quickly, there were more than a few palpitations going on at our end, I can tell you!!!

Thanks for that AR.
ro glad you got some pix of him doing the duet cause mine are 'a bit rubbish'

I don't necessarily agree with all the comments.except about lee.
probably a generation thing.
Lee was absolutely stunning if he doesn't become an international star it will be because he doesn't want to be.
Second time I've heard 'Love Changes Everything' live; this time was even better than the first.
Second time I've heard him sing live 'All I ask of you' The first time was at the charity concert in Southend and nothing will ever top that in my Opinion. Because it was done with three Christines and was well ; very funny. I know its not supposed to be and you had to be there to understand why it was so good. Lee is BRILLIANT when he's funny .
Close Every door was :thud: :thud: :thud: as it always is. Then on went the coat and wow Lee enjoying getting the audience going. he has grown in confidence so much ,he looked as though he was having a ball and he looked a million dollars ,he was so hot last night  :thud:

The rest of the show,
Orchestra were brilliant if a bit loud at times.
Joss Stone I couldn't hear her because the orchestra were too loud
Steve Balsamo fraid that was not the best rendition of that I have heard IMO
Jessie Buckley should have won IDA she was superb really acted out the song.
John Barrowman I love that man he was brilliant as the compare and he sings everything with such polish.
Not heard Idina Menzel before and I'm not really into female singers that much
Duncan James and Jonathan Ansell are not my choice so not fair to comment.
Was impressed with Denise but thats because she is good and she did look good .
The choir boy was lovely .
Phillipe Achille again almost drowned out by the orchestra.
I quite enjoyed listening to Hayley Westenra and she lucky girl got to do a duet with Lee. May be I don't like her after all lol
Julian Lloyd Webber has always been one of my favourite musicians and he didn't disappoint. But I am sending him the name of a good hairdresser !!
Dean Collinson was well Dean and as good as ever ,so glad he wore the outfit to sing the song in.
Not seen the current cast of Phantom but so pleased I have tix for November because was very impressed by Ramin great voice and very :thud:
Maria Friedman was brilliant as good as anyone else I've heard sing that Norma Desmond song.
I know I said I don't like female singers that much but she is a brilliant MT singer and credit where credit is due.
Jodie Prenger. Well I'm booked to see Oliver so will reserve judgement .
Ruthie Henshall was brilliant and so natural and the duet with John B. well that was something else :thud:
Here I have to totally disagree with AR Elaine Page I thought was magnificent. Love the song and she is one of the few woman singers I really admire along with Annie Lennox as well.

Then there were the 4 x Joes and Nancies. the boys looked good. Daniel did a good job as anchor. love his voice he just hasn't got Lee's acting ability sorry Daniel but he is brilliant in Avenue Q. The girls I really couldn't hear.
Rhydian sorry not impressed an age thing probably.
Finally ALW what a phenomenal man to have written all that fantastic music as Michael Crawford said with out him none of last night and lots of those artists wouldn't have been there. He may be eccentric he may be a perfectionist where his music is concerned but he is IMO a super star not just for his music and ideas but also for having the audacity to get shows like ADWd onto the television and to help discover some very talented young stars. especially the Meadstar.

Oh and thanks to my fellow Lovelees for making the day so good.

Yay I'm back & WHAT A SHOW!!!!! :hooray:

I hope you dont mind but this might be a bit long lol  I've never been to a concert before & the whole experience was fantastic made all the more special for seeing Lee perform outside the theatre
AR, Ro & Tricia have done fab reviews so I'll give you mine in more pics than words

We arrived in Hyde Park about 12pm. I was with Hubby, Snoo & Luna and we joined Jules, Chrissi, Linz & Jess on blankets we'd brought. Then for the next 2 1/2 hours we sat chatting, listening to music, eating picnics, drinking :wine: & listening to the sound checks. It was a real party atmosphere and we were only in the queue
Image

Then at 2.30pm the barriers blocking off the entrance were taken down but a couple of people stood & moved forward to the gates, well this made everyone get up & surge forward creating a slight moment of mayhem as the 'camps' were trashed :? So after some quick grabbing of stuff we then spent the next 2 hours stood in a close knit crowd until they allowed us in at 4.30pm!!!!

At last they let us in & we made our way swiftly towards the stage. We had a fab spot only about 20 yards from the stage, the crowd was huge!!!!!!
Image
I see you Amanda

Lee was still on stage doing some sound checks for AIAOY, when he's finished we all gave him a huge cheer & he turned & waves at us with a huge grin
Image

JB was a brilliant host, singing Oh What a Circus & Sunset Boulevard
Image

Wasn't keen on Joss Stone's version of Superstar!!
Image

I enjoyed Steve's Balsamo singing Gethsemane, it's the first time i've heard it performed live
Image

Jessie was fab with I Don't know how to Love Him but I though JD was a bit weak (sorry!!) Not a fan myself of Jonathan Ansell but here he is singing Evermore Without You
Image

Enjoyed Duncan James with Mr Mistoffalees
Image

Denise looked & sounded fab with Take That Look of Your Face
Image

Also enjoyed Edina Menzel, Hayley Westenra, Ruthy Henshall, Maria Friedman & Elaine Page. My word she built up & belted out Memory!!!
Image

Andrew Johnston is a very talented young man & the guys from Phantom where fabulous!! Ramin I have seen play the Phantom (sorry cant remember the girls name!!) and their Phantom of the Opera brought me out in goosebumps!
Image

The Joes & Nancys singing Light at The End of The Tunnel
Image
Image
& I agree with Tricia's comments about them & Rhydian

Dean was DEAN!!! lol A fabulous performance although it did seem strange not to see him with his Pharoah eye make-up
Image

Can you tell I'm saving the best till last? lol

Lee as AMAZING :thud: :thud: :thud:
