I saw this mentioned at the What's On Stage forums:
JCS to replace Spamalot at the Palace and found the following news item:
Jesus Christ Superstar for next ALW casting competition?

Of course, after Lee's incredible performance of Superstar in the ADWD final, wouldn't you think he'd be the natural choice for either Judas or Jesus Christ?

And as posters at WOS have mentioned, it would be crazy to think that they would find a non-professional or inexperienced unknown with the vocal range to handle Gethsemane. OTOH, I think Steve Balsamo (from the last West End production of JCS) had limited experience and he did have the vocal range necessary.

Maybe they'd be casting Judas instead?

Would be interesting to see if this comes about!

Is JCS considered a “family friendly” show? Because I noticed that SOM, Joseph, and Oliver have something in common: they are all good shows to take the kids to and will appeal to people who are not avid musical theatre goers. Plus they have lots of kids *in* those shows. It would be a change from the norm if they did JCS. I’d just like to hear Graham Norton say, “You could be Jesus” over and over again :hysterical:

I think ALW would like to revive JCS but think that is too controversial for the BBC!
There was something in one of the stage mags a while ago, when Kevin Spacey was having a go, that reported that ALW was in talks with ITV about it

I hope this is true, I would love to see JCS in the West End

I shall wait with anticipation for news on it!

No, it's a rock musical, not something for little kiddies!

And I'm not sure which would be worse -- the inevitable outcry from rightwing religious groups or the terrible jokes from Graham Norton, ALW, the panel and the media.

Here are some JCS clips:

I love this one of Steve Balsamo:
Steve Balsamo "Gethsemane" in concert

Daniel Boys did this at a concert recently:
Daniel Boys audio only of Gethsemane

Tony Vincent as Judas here:
Superstar from Tony Awards years ago

I think Lee would kick @ss as Judas and I'm not just saying that because I want to see him dressed up in leather biker gear! Okay, maybe a bit. :lips:

ETA: Jess, thanks for that link. GN is hysterical!
