When Kate, my sis-in-law (a HUGE David Tennant fan) asked Andy and I, last October, if we would like to go and watch a Shakespeare play. We said yes but were a little worried that we wouldn't necessarliy get it! Andy is not the literary kind (understatment ) and although I enjoyed Shakespeare at school (a long time ago) I was still a little uncertain!

Plans were made and a hotel was booked! On Wednesday it was, at last, the day! Six of us headed up to SuA, which in itself turned out to be a lot harder than it should have been due to snow and motorway closures!!! Five hours later we booked into our hotel just outside SuA, met another friend who lives in Nottingham and headed into SuA for some dinner before the show!

After a lovely curry we headed off towards the theatre, Kate's excitement was at fever pitch and it dawned on me that this must be how i am when I entered the Adelphi!!

our seats were in a brilliant position ... 5 rows from the front but only about 3m from the stage! As it started again I was concerned if I would understand it, but within minutes I was completely engrossed! (afterwards Andy said the same thing) The acting was amazing ... no props, very basic scenery, no microphones, no costumes ( no sadly they weren't all naked) but they were dressed in suits, then jeans and Tshirts adn finally in evening dress!. The cast had to rely purely on their acting skills to portray what they wanted in the way they wanted, I can only describe it as acting at its most naked if you like! The whole cast took your on a journey of which most of it I understood!

The girl playing Ophelia (Mariah Gale) was fantastic actaually the whole cast was fantastic, there were a couple of other actors we recognised, the guys playing Reynaldo (David Ajala) and Horatio (Peter de Jersey) . Patrick Stewart was great, very short - wore 2inch heeled shoes to reduce the height difference a bit, but great actor I did say to Andy that i wanted him to say "These are the journeys of the starship Enterprise" which sadly he didn't although he did at one point say "And make it so" which was also one of his Star trek catchphrases!!

And onto DT ... what can I say, I'm not a Dr Who fan ... i never have been and I haven't really seen DT in anything other than the Harry Potter film! BUT he is an amazingly talented actor, his expressions, the emotions he portrays, his body language, his demeanour was just completely absorbing (oh and he is completely gorgeous) ! Very expressive hands ... there was lots of hand acting going on! equally for the foot fetishists amongst you, he spent a lot of the first half bare foot (long bony toes, not attractive in my book, but attached to DT they somehow become quite appealing!)

The whole production was fantastic! DT was an added bonus but actually the whole cast made the producion not just one actor!

And just in case you were worried that I didn't have any fangurl moments .....there were 4 truly memorable bits!!!
1) about 10 minutes in DT is bent over on all 4's pointing his bottom directly at us , the 5 females in our group, tooke a collective breath in!

2) During the scene when DT is wearing jeans and a red t shirt (:thud: inducing in itself) some people would describe the Tshirt as too short however seeing as though it offered us a glimpse of belly button and an intriguing line of hair leading from said belly button down into his jeans ... the 5 of us were   and left us wanting to explore its directional path further!

3) We also had glimpses of his underwear .... wear with red elastic around the top! That vision will keep going during the cold nights of winter!

4) When Hamlet is "going mad" he keeps ruffling his hair .... DT in jeans and red shirt flashing a glimpse of belly and those arches of the pelvis, then ruffling his hair ... i think we could have all spontaneously combusted :thud:

Kate and I went round to the stage door only to be told by some other fans that he had gone straight away, and when we got back to our hotel it became obvious why, on the news, his announcement during the interval on the TV awards!

Nevertheless we all had a fantastic time, something completely different for all of us but something that we will all remember for a long while!

Sounds brilliant, Karen. I'd love to have seen that production. Hamlet is a particular favourite of mine and I am quite a Dr. Who fan too. Glad to hear that DT was so good.

*Squeee* That's brilliant! I've seen some of DT's work on television and "Harry Potter" and he's just amazing. He can switch from a perfectly sane expression of calmness to the sheer insanity of a madman in the blink of an eye. He's a believable and talented actor. And he's good-looking but I'm sure you *ahem* got a better look at his anatomy while watcing him live on stage.

So glad you got to see the wonderful DT up in the flesh and in a great role. Hmmm, I wonder what he'll do next in his career?

I'm sooooooo looking forward to seeing Hamlet in London!

And just because more people might be interested. If you're between 16 and 25, there are still tickets available for a lot of performances. They are very surprisingly called 16-25, and only cost £5. For the exact information I quote the RSC website:

Quote:
Ticket discounts at the Novello

16 - 25s £5 tickets - 50 tickets will be reserved for every performance. 25 of these can be booked in advance and 25 will be sold on the day in person from the Novello Theatre Box Office. This offer is for individuals aged between 16 and 25 who must make the booking themselves. Maximum of 2 tickets per person, per performance.

All tickets, including those booked in advance, can only be collected in person from the Box Office from 1 hour before the performance. Proof of age will be required. Tickets will be allocated entirely at the discretion of the Box Office.

Apparently most people don't know these tickets exist, so if you're the right age and you want to see this, grab your change!
