BBC ONE and Graham seek more new talent
We solved the problems of Maria then Joseph but next year Saturday nights will stir to the strains of Consider Yourself and Oom-Pah-Pah when BBC One raises the roof in its search for stars for the much-loved, timeless British musical - Oliver!

In I'd Do Anything the challenge is on to find a new talent for the role of Nancy and a total of three young new performers who will take it in turns to play orphaned urchin Oliver.

Graham Norton is back as host and is reunited with Andrew Lloyd Webber who's back on his throne. Plus this year the show involves another titan of musical theatre, Cameron Mackintosh. Together with a select panel of judges they will uncover the young and aspiring talent prepared to rise to the occasion and take on the demanding West End star roles.

The show will broadcast on BBC One next year but auditions are happening in a town near you in January.

This sounds good! It may not have been my favourite musical (for a show like this), but I'm really looking forward to it! :D

Not sure that I want to support this, after the way the way ADWD was run on the 'There can only be one Joseph' ticket.

The public seems to know more than A.L.W. and Bill. K. and certainly got it right as regards the winner of ADWD. The 'How do you solve a problem like Maria' worked well too. Connie was the best.

However, I think the team may have overstretched the format. One winner, doesn't mean - keep the rest in reserve and use them to boost ratings if possible - especially if 'they' want to keep the Musical Theatre goers happy.

I agree with that!

and also what about the others who have landed themselves in the touring production of Joseph aswell!

However.... the oliver thing seems interesting!
Never saw Oliver before, but know the story and songs!

And just read this on the JB newsgroup:

"I'D DO ANYTHING (the search for an Oliver and Nancy for a West End revival)
begins airing on Saturday 15th March with 2 weeks of pre lim stuff, with the
live shows starting 29th March and the finale on 31st May." :D

Great news! Thanks a lot! I want BBC1 on satelite! Hope I'm gonna get it till 15th! :)

P.S. Denise Van Outen was in that video, but, as far as I know, she's not on Judges List. So, will she be a judge or no?!

Not sure if I agree with the idea of picking Oliver in this way though. Nancy, fine as the girls are older, but puttin very young boys through all that stress, to me is very cruel.

It's a bit different for the Olivers:

Quote:
It's almost showtime...
Tune in on Saturday 15th March to begin the I'd Do Anything journey

The wait is almost over. On Saturday 15th March at 7.30pm you can settle down after some food, glorious food, and say Oom Pah Pah to Graham as we enter the musical world of Oliver!

The first show charts the journeys of thousands of hopefuls as they begin their quest for stardom via regional auditions. The girls are whittled down to just over a hundred, who are called to London to perform before the panel: those who stand out at audition have the chance to win a coveted place at Nancy School, the next stage in the competition.

Meanwhile, 50 young boys are selected to work with musical theatre experts before the final 12 who are lucky enough to make it to the live shows are chosen by Andrew Lloyd Webber and Cameron Mackintosh. Each week, the wannabe Olivers are set a musical task and also perform as a group; they will not face a public vote, but must continue to impress Andrew and the panel to guarantee a place in the semi-final.

In time-honoured tradition, the Nancys will be vying to make their mark on Andrew and the panel and, from programme three, will also need to gain viewers' support to stay in with a chance of winning the coveted role of Nancy in the West End.

Tee hee, that’s a very cute commercial! Oh JB, what do you want with an igloo anyway? I also liked the Maria intro where all of those girls are fighitng each other on top of a mountain.

I’m feeling a bit more relieved knowing that the Olivers won’t be voted on or off by the public. That’d be too harsh for young boys to face. IMHO, just proving themselves to ALW will be a sufficient challenge for aspiring performers. Which means the Nancys must follow in the tear-jerking footsteps of the Josephs and Marias. This should be very interesting!

On a side note, I recognized Lee from one of photos where he dropped in during auditions. What if he turned up as a surprise guest performer or did one of the missions with the Nancys for I’d Do Anything?

I'm excited! I soooo wanna be on telly! I've been on it for a split second on Antiques Roadshow with my dad, about 5 seconds on Meridian news when McFly and V came to our school prom, so I'm hoping for maybe 30 seconds on this, work me way up lol.
xx

Thanks for that, makes me feel a bit better that they dont have to face the public vote

I'm not sure if that was on the site from the beginning :) I think they were a bit vague about it!
