That was a great review Marieke and Hannah.

I don't know the play or the music so it was all new to me. This might sound strange, but my over-riding thought was how it wasn't Joseph!! haha I think I might have seen Joe too many times! The lack of cheering, screaming was a bit weird and I had to make do with polite clapping. At least at the end we got to cheer a bit. Although the pirates and Hook got boo'd by the entire audience bar me and Kat cheering. James joked later he would have been angry if we'd have boo'd him! lol

I thought the sets were lovely. The nursery was just perfect. I liked the pirate ship the best. I really liked the flying to Neverland bit with all the stars. (James is in charge of flying John by the way!!!) The music is really lovely and the whole show does have a special magical feel. Amy who plays Wendy has a lovely voice. The boy playing Michael that night was the little cute one with the lisp and he was adorable. I thought James Gillan as Peter was just perfect. Loved his accent, his sweet voice, his cheeky cocky attitude. And I remembered afters how I'd seen him as Boq in Wicked. The lost boys were great. The pirates were kinda menacing until they started singing and dancing!! hehe. And Hook was just fab. Great voice, so funny, and scary too.

James - like Hannah and Marieke - he just made me giggle the entire time!!! It's funny enough seeing him all 'Captain Jack Sparrow' - but then his pirate voice - hahaha - or his typical James faces, just this time pirate faces rather than 'brother' faces. And then the dancing - hilarious! Was great to hear him sing - even if it didn't really sound like him coz of the 'pirate voice'!

He seems very happy which is good. Got to talk to him lots and lots and had a bit of a giggle. He told a fabulous story of him and James Gillan in a club one night, and coz James Gillan played Benjamin years ago, they both did the mega mix dance in the middle of the dance floor, to some random Kylie song, and really impressed everyone with their synchronised dancing!!! haha! Can you imagine!??!!!!!

Also had loads of fun with Hannah and Marieke and Kat in Leeds. Thanks girls. Love you!
Can't wait for more visitors!!!

Ha Harrrrrr! Great pic.

I've tried to skip over the reviews for now as I don't want to spoil it for tomorrow.

I hope I make it. I've got a horrible tummy bug and have been in bed all day!!!

Ok, I make no apologies for the length of this review :giggle:
Well, where to start? I suppose the beginning’s a good place lol
Met up with Anne, Ruth, Kazzer & Snoo at Leeds train station, all 5 of us came in from different directions & it was strange to be meeting Lovelees outside of London!!! We walked to the Theatre through the City centre calling into a few shops on the way  & I bought a Christmas Card for James that said “From All of Us” on the front which we all signed plus I put that it was from the Dotorg Lovelees and put the print out of the Messages that some you of put in James’s Thread for him. Julie had typed them out & here’s a scan of them

Image
Image

We arrived at the Theatre at around 12pm and were just deciding on whether to leave James a message that we would be seeing the show when in he walked!! His face was a picture when he saw us all standing there & it was hugs all round  He had to get off to do his vocal warm up but promised he’d come see us after the show to catch up.
We then had about an hour before going to find our seats so got drinks :wine: & spent the time talking about……………………………LEE  well we are Lovelees lol

The show was fab, definitely not a Pantomime & its not billed as such however the audience was 50% children under 5  so made for a slightly noisy performance as they quickly lose interest in what was a Christmas Performance/Musical. I hadn’t even realised that Peter Pan had a music score before this production and it sticks very closely to the book which means its very dark in places and certainly the end is rather sad & poignant  However, the songs are good, the comedy is funny the effects are great and the dancing, especially from a certain Pirate  is fabulous!!!!
The show had to be stopped about 10 mins in as there was a problem with the ‘wires’ but it only took 5 mins to sort out & the audience was very appreciative of the cast & how they coped with it  At the end of the show after the final bows the guy who plays Smee stepped forward & announced that they would be collecting for World Aids day (I think it was that, maybe one of the others could correct me if it was something else) & the Pirates & Peter dashed up the stairs out of the auditorium! We realised they would be collecting with buckets & hoped to catch James in costume, so it was purses out lol However he was nowhere to be seen :giggle: but we got some pics of Captain Hook, Peter, one of the Lost Boys (Curly??) & a couple of the Pirates (sorry rubbish at the names  ) but more of those pesky pirate later

Image
Image

What is this Pirate doing? lol
Image

We had put our donations into the buckets but then I decided that I wanted a pic with Peter & Captain Hook as they were stood together so told them I’d put more cash in the bucket for a pic lol and then Snoo was recruited by Captain Hook into his Crew!!!! :hysterical:

Image

Anne then spotted this shifty looking character!!!!

Image

When he came over & grabbed Snoo  insisting on a pic :teehee:

Image

You have to watch pirates you know, they are prone to do things like that

The show had started at 1.30pm but what with the show stopping & then ‘messing around’ with pirates lol it was now 4.30pm & Kazzer had to rush off for her train

The rest of us found a table in the cafeteria, got coffees & waited for James. Apparently he had rushed off to get changed & showered to meet us!! Awwww
James found us & we had a very pleasant hour chatting with him about the show, what he’s getting up to in Leeds and how Anne had sacrificed 2 Joseph shows to come to Leeds   I gave him some chocs and the Christmas Card from the Forum which included the Messages which he was thrilled with and gave me a hug for everyone
James then signed all of our programmes, this is a scan of mine

Image

And then it was time for a group piccie & Anne took this first one

Image
Mmmm, those glasses of wine are showing in my face :shy:

Then James asked one of the cast members who just happened to be passing  to take a pic so we could all be in it. He came to stand by me again but I joked that we had to change places as the colour of our sweaters clashed lol
Mmmm, wonder what the rest of the cast think of all the ‘fangirls’ that are visiting James lol

Image

We were then mindful that James still had to eat, as did we  , before getting ready to do the Evening show so it was hugs all round again & we said our goodbyes
Snoo then took us to a Malaisian/Thai/Indonesian restaurant where we had a very lovely meal eaten with chopsticks :lips: and made the mistake of trying the raw red chillies  :hot: *makes note to self never to do that again* lol & we rounded the evening off with cocktails in a bar before going to catch our trains
Thanks girls for a fabulous day    was great to meet everyone again even if it did seem strange at first meeting outside of London lol & a big thanks to Snoo for looking after us all & not losing anyone  :teddyheart:

Ang, couldn't have written it better myself and thank you to Snoo for being our tour guide and showing us the many hills  and steps of Leeds, lol.

Thanks Ruth for filling in at such short notice, for Kazzer for her company, although not long enough of it and of couse Ang, because without you suggesting and arranging, I would have been at Joe TWICE.

It was a wonderful weekend made all the better when both Ruth and I were at the train station this morning just browsing the magazines in W H Smith when up bounces a very happy James on his way to London, alas, he had booked the train before mine so he didn't have the pleasure of my company for nearly 3 hours, he would have loved that, I'm sure

I really could get used to Lovelees coming to Leeds!!! I love it!!!
I wasn't planning on seeing the show, since I saw it last Friday, but it was the choice between £15 for a back row ticket, or 2 hours of xmas shopping. Easy choice right??? lol
Drinking that wine before the show on an empty stomach meant the first half was kinda woozy!! haha And being right at the back without my glasses meant it was fuzzy too!!! lol
I loved when the show stopped and Peter Pan (James Gillan) did that rather random "Fairy Dust" thing, before the curtain came down. (I didn't mind the show halting as it meant I could have a much needed loo break! haha!)
And then second half - the nice usher lady let me upgrade to a free seat in Row G. Which meant the second half was slightly less fuzzy! hehe.
Loved seeing the show again actually, now I know and love the music more. My fave bits are still all of the pirate bits. Especially pirates dancing - there is something just so inherently funny about pirates dancing! And James does stand out! They deffo make use of his great voice and dancing skills. My fave songs, or at least, the ones I can't get out of my head now are 'Something in the air tonight', 'good old captain hook', and 'rose tinted eyepatch'.

Yeah - it was World Aids day on Monday and all week they were collecting it. It was very cool to see some of the pirates up close!!! (Not James though - I think it takes him too long to get changed and clean his teeth as it is! Or maybe they take it in turns.)
When I put my money in the bucket, Hook told me I was now officially part of his crew! (Yay!!!) And I got to tell him how great I thought he was, (he really is good!!) which he sounded genuinely pleased to hear.
Then I was accosted by a pirate! Cookson played by Chris Hunt. (Going into JB in Feb - which is very cool.) He pulled various sexy faces and eyeballed me a bit. Photo taken. I sort of went a bit wibble. Then noticed his sword. Erm, sort of touched it, and he says "You don't touch a guys sword without asking!" hahaha! lol :shy: Later he came past in normal clothes (not quite the same without the pirate clothes!) and James goes "Look there's your boyfriend." Argh - James really knows how to embarrass me.
Was lovely to chat with James again. He seems very happy! (Well of course! Leeds is great! haha! lol)

Ange - love your photo of you with Peter and Hook - very very very cool!!!
Other pics are great too - thanks Ange and Anne.
Then yeah - great evening having food and cocktails with some lovelee peoples!!!! Thanks for a great day ladies!!!! Love you! :teddyheart:

Great review Ange. Sounds like you had a fabulous time. James looks really good in all the photos. It was good of him to spend so much time with between shows. He is such a lovely guy.
