Finally the one you've all been waiting for (And yes we lugged my laptop around London to type this up, so no complaining about the wait! ) Blue's me, green's Luna ^^
Peter Pan
There’s something in the air tonight
Watching Peter Pan had a twofold purpose, enjoying the show (I knew most of the songs and I really love them :) ) and James spotting. The first song was a good start for both. We spend a lot of time pointing, laughing and giggling, but at the same time it was just very brilliant seeing James on stage again. I think neither of us realized exactly how much we had missed seeing him in Joseph until we saw him there on stage again. Or how much we had missed hearing him (that goes for me at least). The first song was great, sung by a cast that’s vocally very strong. And that was the first inkling of how good the cast actually was. Up front, we weren’t actually that interested in the rest of the cast, but finally seeing the show it was good to hear how high the standards were. Quite a lot of the cast members came from the West End and/or had played in Peter Pan before. So even if these were still only the first shows, it was REALLY good.
Unlike Marieke I didn’t know any of the songs or anything about the musical so that was quite an interesting experience. The only thing I did know is that Bill Jukes was supposed to have tattoos which had me wondering about how far poor James would so for a part Anyway, I loved the song like Marieke said it’s vocally beautiful and James enters on the left in a suit and bowler hat with a moustache at which point my giggles took over but the song was still great.
Just beyond the stars
It used to be one of my favourite songs, because it’s so dreamlike, it still is a favourite, but it’s competing with a lot of others ;-). It introduces the Darling family, in whose house apparently the domestic normality is mostly due to the children. And of course it introduces Peter Pan, which is fun ^^
I like the song but it’s more of a ‘filler’ for me, but I want to say the Darling house set is amazing, very well done and Nana is brill.
Never land
Love this song! Very catchy, very fun. Especially when just before the song one of the cast members got stuck in the bathroom (flying equipment gone wrong) and Peter and Wendy had to fill the time with discussing other fairy tales.
I love this, by the time this song gets going I had gotten used to the Scottish Peter and the little reference to London are funny. Both ‘Michael’s’ we saw that did their part very well (think little Aled Jones) the star-backdrop is beautiful and I would say it has expert flying controllers
The Lost Boys Gang
One of my favorites, especially when the scenery isn’t breaking down half-way through. the third time we saw the show they had made the music rockier (?) which I thought worked better. Also we got a lot of attention from the boys that time round, I think rumors had been started backstage
Very fun song, and yes, the attention by the third show was great
Hook
First sight of James in his pirate costume, which is very Jack Sparrow-y! And he looks brilliant in it!! Also the first time we heard his pirate voice. At that point I was stuffing my scarf in my mouth to stop from laughing too hard. I absolutely LOVE the voice. And also the pirates in general, they’re hilarious. Hook is a good example of that! The song is fun, the dancing is hilarious and it’s just great fun added together. It’s also a very catchy song. I’m still singing it :P Hook himself is great too. :D
James big entrance, what can be said my first thought was he looked like the love-child of Jack Sparrow and Asher I love the song, it’s catchy and fun and once you can breathe enough or have climbed back on your chair you do appreciate the singing but James’s first appearance is quite an event (fyi – the tattoos are a sleeve)
Build a house
Another song that had us in stitches by the third performance. We had already had the entire Lost Boys Gang staring at us through their song, but the third time they were definitely adding things they didn’t have in the first two times.
*remembers* *has fits of giggles* yes, Peter (James Gillan) had stopped looking in our direction by the third show I think that might have been the John-event fault
The cleverness of me
More Neverland *loves* Very fun and fantasy-like and just a great song. Peter Pan looks pretty smug from time to time ^^
*loves* James Gillan sings this very well and he is an excellent spoilt little boy it’s just a fun song with loads of bouncing on stage
When I kill Peter Pan
Hook’s song. Very good, he had a nice voice. And it’s just a fun song ^^ Especially when the other pirates join in
Look back through a rose-tinted eyepatch
We need tambourines, according to a Wispa ad on the side of a bus when we left Leeds. That pretty much sums up this song. We need tambourines. And if it’s James dancing with them, that makes it all the better.
:hysterical: I second that… won’t say more
One big adventure
I love this song as well. I never used to listen to it that much, but it worked so well and it’s just beautiful :)
It’s a curse to be a pirate with a conscience
Yay more pirates ^^
Very funny, no singing from James until the end but excellent faces and I would say I like the amended version better then the pre-view one we first saw.
The fight
Impressive *nods* no wonder all of them are covered in bruises, special note needs to be made for the crocodile’s rear-end after the song. Check out the boots
Yep, very impressive. Even though I still want to stop Hook from sending Bill Jukes into his cabin!! ^^
There’s always tomorrow
A song of hope, but also a sad song. In a way I loved how the musical stayed very close to the book at all times, but here I did miss bits. I won’t spoil that for those going, but will say that even with the sadness it’s a really beautiful and powerful song.
Been ages since I read the book but I just like that this is a beautiful musical but it doesn’t end with a happy end as such, it’s poignant but magical/hopeful ( big words)
There’s something in the air tonight (reprise)
Curtain call. With either just generally a well deserved applause for all the cast members, or booing for the pirates and Hook. Or booing from most of the people anyway, when we were there, there we’re some people cheering as well ;-)
Cheering for the Pirates is fun because no-one else does
SD is non-existent. But waiting in a warm comfortable café is very nice as well.
Sit in the bar area and look towards the food serving place, James comes out there and he was very happy to see us. We have left him with a mountain of chocolate (literately) but we’re sure he’ll love more.
