Though I'd make a new thread about the show, apart from the IDA thread :)
Cause the latest rumour is that Nick Knowles will be playing Bill Sykes. Which seems an odd choice, to say the least  I don't know if it's officially confirmed yet?
And of course Rowan Atkinson as Fagin, whom I would really like to see. But I read on LMAS that Oliver! tickets are selling fast, and the first couple of weeks, from December 12 till somewhere in January, are almost sold out. I know it's holiday season then, but for a theatre the size of Theatre Royal Drury Lane, it's saying something. And apparently it isn't easy to find good seats after January too! Does anyone have tickets already? And what do you think of the casting so far?

They are quite expensive, yeah

I'm not sure when I'm going, it's a show I want to see, but not that much that I'm making plans already. Might go somewhere around that date too, before panto maybe.... :D

It should be easier to get singles I guess, but even then a lot of the best seats are already sold out.

Oooh - Nick Knowles. Interesting choice. I love him on DIY SOS and thought he sang Ok on Celeb Fame Academy, so he might do OK!!

Wikipedia have this:-

Outside of London, Gorman has worked with the Nottingham Playhouse, Plymouth Theatre Royal, and Manchester's Royal Exchange Studio and Library and Contact Theatres, where he was nominated for a Manchester Evening News Best Newcomer Award.

In 2008 he will play Bill Sykes in Cameron Mackintosh's West End revival of the musical Oliver!.

I purchased tickets this morning on the basis of this rumour, so I really hope it's true.

I would love to see him! Don't have tix yet, but am certainly going to buy one later on! I heard he's a good singer, so it would be cool to see him there! :D

Its just been pointed out to me that the official Oliver website states the Nancy who wins the final tonight will only be playing the part for 4 shows per week... Mon, Tue and Fri evenings and Wed matinees. So if you have tickets, or are planning to get some... make sure you get a good day!

At first I thought they were promoting a cast of A-actors in case the “wrong” Nancy got chosen and there was a need to improve ticket sales. Did they do that as a backup plan in promoting “Joseph” or “SOM” before the competitions ended? Hmmm....

But now that IDA has ended they can confirm Gorman, who I’m sure will be excellent as well as Atkinson in the show. I’ve only seen him in Blackadder and Mr. Bean as a comic performer but I didn’t know he did singing/dancing/theatre routines as well! Add in bubbly Jodie and it sounds like “Oliver” is going to be a very exciting showstopper.

Sound of Music they cast Lesley Garrett as The mother superior
Dean Collinson and Stephen Tate are both well known actors as Preya was in Joe.
So think they may well have wanted to ensure some experienced people incase the public chose the wrong person
There was no way they were going to lay out all that money and not try to make sure it succeeded.
Or am I just sceptical????????????????????????????????

Thank you for answering my question, Tricia. I was curious to know if/how they were advertising "Joseph" before they knew who Joseph was going to be!! I'm sure if they're going to invest this much time, money, and publicity for the shows then they want it to succeed very much. It's not skeptical at all. That's just how the business runs:
popular cast = more butts in seats

Haha, well we have TW in Oliver, I guess we'll have a bit of DW too! Julian Bleach (Davros) will be playing Mr Sowerberry.
And with Julian Glover (HP, Star Wars, DW) as Mr Brownlow it definitely is an all star line-up!
