Edit in what I wrote in the general chat: The end really had me in tears, the moment where Davros showed the Doctor all the people dying for him too, and all the Jack moments just had me squeeing but other than that... I actually didn't think it was a fab finale... It was a RTD one, for better or for worse. And this time I guess it was (at least for me) a bit more for worse. I did love it tho, it's still DW, but the writing just was a bit crap _________________ All my love to long ago

Catherine Tate's acting ability is only second to that of David Tennant. The ending was a little predictable and dare I say cheesy but I loved the foreshadowing of Donna's predicament in the episode with the Ood i.e. DoctorDonna. That had me smacking myself on the forehead for not seeing it before. This foreshadowing was reinforced by the background music (the Oods song of freedom) when the TARDIS was pulling the earth back home. All in all I think series 4 has been the best so far by a mile. It's a shame Catherine Tate won't be back in 2010 as she brought so much emotion, empathy and humour to the series; she will be hard to replace. I hope at last that Catherine can be seen as a talented actress and not just as a comedienne in a comedy sketch show. _________________ -❈-Issy-❈-

DT and CT were absolutely brilliant! (And JB too of course ^^) I loved the music and yes, should've seen the DoctorDonna coming!
The hand was cool!!
I really want to see the ep again soon! Even though I didn't think it was brill (tbh not at all :(), there were a couple of very great moments! _________________ All my love to long ago

A couple of bits made us laugh out loud - mainly involving Jack I think!!!
Overall very enjoyable. Was a bit disappointed with the whole memory-wiping thing, but hey!!
LOL

Before I saw the episode and thought about Donna's memory being wiped as a possibility I thought how crappy it would be. However having seen the episode and the reasons for the memory wipe I think it was a suitably sad and tragic ending for Donna. We've heard before about the doctor's mind being very powerful and the fact that Donna couldn't cope with it felt like it had an essence of truth. Having just thought about it; Rose went through something similar at the end of the first series when she looked into the heart of the TARDIS and the doctor had to save her.
Marieke; I know you said that you felt this wasn't a good finale but to be honest with the build up we've been giving it nothing would have lived up to our expectations. In places it was beautifully written; wonderfully acted and moving beyond words and that was enough for me! _________________ -❈-Issy-❈-

I agree that the memory wipe was tragic and it was so sad (I was in tears!!) and I do understand that a human can't cope with the mind of a Time Lord, while a Time Lord can cope with a human body. I loved that bit, thought it was great. I loved that whole solution, tbh. And had that been the main theme of the finale, I had thought it cleverly written. But it wasn't. Or maybe it's better to say that it might have been the main theme, but that it wasn't the main focus of the ep.
And I know that wasn't possible with the build up, but they just took the easy way out nearly everytime. SJ in threat of death by extermination? Jackie and Mickey show up. Ianto and Gwen face a Dalek in the Hub? Time Lock! (And come on, time lock? That's Time Lord technology at least, not even Tosh could do that!!) Jackie in danger? Teleportation device starts working again. SJ coincidentally got a warp star from a soothsayer? (Again, for the story did was important, but it just was too much of a coincidence for me).
Also the reaction of the Daleks to the Doctor was a bit disappointing. They just captured the Oncoming Storm and there's barely a reaction. (Re the capture, yes a fullfledged Dalek empire would have the technology to deal with TARDISes but the Doctor survived the Time War, surely his TARDIS could deal with such a Dalek threat?)
The thing is, I loved the beginning of the ep, the hand and the regeneration... fab! It started off great, and I was expecting it to really begin now. But instead the Doctor is captured, the resistance of the companions is useless (like the Daleks said last week) and a lot happened, but at the same time nothing happened. So for me it was a bit of an anti-climax. The ep just had deus ex machina written all over it. And that's my main reason for not being completely happy with how this finale turned out, not so much that it didn't live up to expectations, I think
Having said that, I will watch it again, cause I did love it. It's DW! How can I not? And I expect, no, I know the ep will grow on me, but last night I just thought it could have been so much better. And I still do _________________ All my love to long ago

Just to add: Having watched most of the ep again now (I couldn't watch the last minutes again, too sad) I do think it's more brilliant. I still think it isn't the best ep of the series, but it was good ^^ _________________ All my love to long ago

Finally managed to see the "Turn Left" episode that I should have recorded but did the wrong channel. That was the best episode in my view but then I love things like that anyway i.e. parallel worlds where you can see what would have happened had you taken another course of action apart from the one you took.
What will I do now on Saturday evenings without Dr Who when I am not going out anywhere!
